On March 7, an event, dedicated to the linguist Chatzkel Lemchen (1904-2001), was held at the museum. During the evening, lecture “Personality of Chatzkel Lemchen, his lexicographical works and contribution to the Lithuanian language” was delivered by Ilona Murauskaitė and film “Uncle Chatzkel” was screened. Before the screening, a greeting word by the film director and screenwriter, Rod Freedman, was read to the public by the head of the museum’s Public Relations and Education Department, Irina Pocienė. In the greeting word, R. Freedman recalled the emotional and rewarding meetings with his great-uncle Chatzkel Lemchen:
“Meeting him for the first time, making this film and returning several times since then has connected me with my Litvak past and enriched my sense of identity. I have been privileged to know such an extraordinary individual whose quiet strength and dignity enabled him to survive and transcend unthinkable circumstances. His story has been a precious gift which I am now privileged to be able to share with you”.
