Two paintings by Max Band as well as paintings by Arbit Blatas and Lazar Krestin supplemented Museum‘s Art Collection. The artworks of Max Band and Arbit Blatas are relevant to the Museum due to painters‘ connections to the community of Litvak artists in Paris, new art movement Ecole de Paris, or School of Paris.
The painting „Portrait of a Lady“ by Lazar Krestin is interesting as an artwork of a Litvak who was born in Kaunas, studied first in the Vilnius drawing school, later – in Munich and Vienna. All the main Jewish museums in Western Europe and USA as well as art museums and galleries in Israel have artworks of this painter in their collections.
We thank the Lithuanian Council for Culture for financing the purchase of the above-mentioned paintings.
