THE JEWISH WORLD OF YESTERDAY, THE HOPE OF TODAY: Pictures and Stories of Lithuanian Jewish Families by Centropa |
On the 21st of July, the traveling exhibition „THE JEWISH WORLD OF YESTERDAY, THE HOPE OF TODAY: Pictures and Stories of Lithuanian Jewish Families by Centropa“ (2011 07 21 – 2011 09 12) was opened in the Tolerance Center of Vilna Gaon State Jewish Museum. The exhibition was created on the occasion of Lithuania‘s Chairmanship in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in cooperation with Vienna based NGO Centropa and already exhibited at Hofburg Palace in Vienna, in 2011. During the visit to Lithuania Centropa interviewed a group of elderly Jews, all of whom were born in interwar Lithuania, and digitized nearly 500 privately-held photographs. The exhibition is based on the new, 21st century approach to the past, and contributes to the balanced implementation of the principles of tolerance. The Tolerance Center presents the Jewish histories and their photos together with the Embassy of the Republic of Austria in Vilnius.
The Vice-inister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė, the Charge d‘Affairs of the Embassy of the Republic of Austria Josef Sigmund, and the other foreign ambassadors and diplomats, residing in Lithuania participated in the opening of the exhibition. |
