On the 1st of December, an extraordinary meeting with brother Evaldas Darulis OFM was held at the museum‘s Tolerance Center. The meeting was dedicated to psalms and their reflections in art.
It was not the first time that brother Evaldas, the dean of the parish of Saint Francis of Assisi (Bernardines) in Vilnius, visited the Tolerance Center. He presented the structure, authors and content of the Book of Psalms to the audience and shared his insights on the lines from psalms No. 52, 55, 57, 139 and 144, chosen by the painter Andrzej Strumiłło and used in his art.
„The Hebrew name of psalms, „tehilim“, means „praising“. Psalms is one of the main forms of prayer. Dialogs and even disputes with God are common for Jews. Prayer as a personal conversation with God spread to Christianity“, brother E. Darulis said. „Psalms have rhythm and therefore are very suitable for singing. They may be called the poetry of the nation of Israel“, he added.
At the end of the meeting brother Evaldas answered questions from the audience and read one of his favorite psalms – psalm no. 23, traditionally attributed to King David.
