SEARCHING FOR THE FAMILY HISTORY / JEWISH ANCESTRY

The Vilna Gaon State Jewish Museum receives numerous requests from individuals all around the world, searching for their ancestors and connections to their kin, who’s roots may lead back to the Lithuanian territories. Although the museum reviews archives, this tends to be closer to Litvaks who have relations with our ongoing as well as new expositions. Only in exceptional cases (when connections to general history are made) does the VGSJM uncover data regarding Jewish families and their histories in former Lithuanian territories. However, this is not to discourage anyone as personal family histories could potentially be traced at the Office of the Chief Archivist of Lithuania. For further enquiries please visit the state archives website: http://www.archyvai.lt/en/news.html
