Commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day in Vilnius

The Vilna Gaon Museum of Jewish History invites Vilnius residents and visitors to a public commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day on 27 January at 11 am.

 

This year marks a solemn milestone: the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. To honour this moment and remember a tragic chapter in Lithuania`s history, the Museum continues its tradition of commemorating this day on the streets of Vilnius.

 

The event will take place at 8 Žemaitijos Street, a historic site where in 1943 members of the anti-Nazi resistance of the Vilnius Ghetto courageously erected barricades and fought against Nazi forces.

 

Participants are invited to gather at 11 am at the Samuel Bak Museum (10 Naugarduko Street), from where the group will march to the former Vilnius Ghetto.
